Other
Projects - NorthStar Project
Location
NorthStar is situated in far north central Nevada, approximately 60
miles north of the town of Battle Mountain. It currently consists
of 380 acres of unpatented mining claims.
Target Mineralization
The target at NorthStar will be Carlin-type gold mineralization with
the potential for deep high grade deposits. Similar and nearby deposits
include the Meikle Mine (+5 million ounces) and several similar deposits
on the Carlin Trend.
Setting
The NorthStar Project is located along the northwest projection of
the Carlin Trend, about 40 miles from the Dee/Arturo property. It
is situated atop the only regional gravity high in the vicinity, a
feature which may signify the presence of the prospective denser carbonates
of the Lower Plate rocks at moderate depths. The surface units are
Upper Plate Paleozoic siliceous assemblage rocks and unnamed siltstone
unit. These rocks all display widespread Carlin-type alteration and
geochemistry with up to 0.563 g/t gold, 457 ppm arsenic, 13 ppm antimony,
905 ppb mercury, and barite observed in outcrop.
History
The NorthStar prospect because of its attractive location and surface
mineralization attracted top-notch explorers such as Newmont (1985-86),
BHP (1994-96), Freeport (1984-85), and Cordex (1990-91). These groups
focused on the near-surface potential with mapping, a CSAMT survey,
and rock and soil sampling. They drilled a total of 48 holes in the
vicinity of the current claims, none to depths greater than 765 feet
and therefore the current target concept remains untested.
Maestro Work and Results
Maestro has conducted no exploration work at NorthStar.
Highlights and Targets
The NorthStar project has excellent exploration potential as indicated
by these following strong attributes:
- NorthStar's location along the projection of the Carlin Trend.
- Geologic and geochemical evidence of a Carlin-type hydrothermal system.
- Gravity data that indicates relatively shallow Lower Plate carbonate rocks.
- CSAMT data that shows numerous lithologic
breaks at 1000 to 2000 feet, which may represent the Upper Plate/Lower
Plate contact.
- No drilling below 750 feet having been conducted.
- Good potential to host a high grade deeper
Carlin-type deposit. If one was discovered, this would become a new
Carlin-type gold district.
Plans
The main focus for exploration at NorthStar will be to drill two
holes to at least 2,500 feet. This first effort would test for favorable
stratigraphy and possible signs of deep mineralization. |
